Cyberpunk 2077 preview

Our impressions of CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 48 Min Game Intro

Posted by ThirtySix

Wow... can I just say that... Everything about this game looks pretty much amazing. I know I'm supposed to be talking about good and bad, but I don't see any bad... this is a crazy looking game in every single aspect.

Set in a city called Night City, you make your way through a hustling bustling future California metropolis teeming with life. Every corner has something for you to see, interact with, talk to, and just admire. It's amazing how they were able to depict the first future city that I can (unprofessionally) call "realistic."

To get yourself caught up, you can check out the video we are talking about right here:

Graphics

The graphics are gritty, futuristic, and punk all at the same time. You can feel the city being alive in every aspect. People walking around, shop owners, different stores, mission givers, arcades, and more.

The world is totally interactive. Every single aspect of the city looks and feels amazing. That is exactly what every RPG out there should emulate.

We can expect this kind of excellence from the developers of the Witcher series, but this honestly blew me away.

Cyberpunk 2077 Character Creation

Character Creation

I think it is safe to say this'll be the first game where I ever go ahead and create a famale character. Wow.

They killed it with this. From the futuristic looking cuts and augmentations in the skin, to the hair, eyes, and pretty much everything else, these character models look stunning.

Usually, you don't expect this level of amazing with a game where you can create a character. It is usually one of the things you need to get over and accept as an RPG player. Not here. These character models look top knotch. From the characters you play, to the NPC's floating around the city waiting to talk to you (or sell you something).

Street Cred

Not only are there (seemingly) a ton of options out there when it comes to clothing. Not only that, but instead of just looks, armor, and all the regular, your clothing will give you street cred - a stat in the game that influences the way others react around you.

Seems pretty cool. Bringing another touch of reality to the game even in the clothing that you wear.

Cyberpunk 2077 Shooting gameplay

Gunplay

The demo opened up with a scene where you are moving in on a compound of enemies who are trying to scavenge technology from the bodies of citizens. You end up in a few firefights that feel good.

Enemies screaming and trash talking, popping augments to unlock special abilities, and just the way the guns look and seem to feel are all straight out of a sci-fi thriller. Awesome.

I love that they went the Gears of War route with it and I'm to stay away from the laser cannons and pistols, which were never a satisfying replacement for a nice holo point bullet, anyway, right?

Cyberpunk 2077 Driving

Driving

Wow,,, did I just say, driving? Wow.

The car you seem to drive is a super powered sport scar. You can explore the city freely in tons of different cars, bikes, and other vehicles from what they are saying. An exciting element to a shooter RPG that we have not seen much of before.

Summary

Night City seems like one of the most realistic and alive video game environments in an RPG that we have ever seen.

Granted, this was a dictated and planned out initial look, but, damn, the game looks good.

Very excited to get our hands on this one when it drops.

Until next time,
